The Myth and the Girl

Indeed, la? Without an oath, I'll make and end on't
(Song) By Gis and by Saint Charity
            Alack, and fie for shame
Young men will do't if they come to't
By Cock, they are to blame
Quoth she 'Before you tumbled me,
              You promised me to wed.'
He answers 'So would I'a' done, by yonder sun
An thou hast not come to my bed

Ever since I read Hamlet and portayed Ophelia my senior year of high school I have been fascinated by the character. I took a Shakespeare course and my teacher told me I was the living embodiment of Ophelia and he was right. I was the fragile girl dumped by the man she loved and misunderstood by those around her. But now I wonder if Ophelia really was so fragile...

I am working on an in depth study of Ophelia which I will chronicle on this page..

Books I am reading/using:

All of these books can be found at walmart.com or amazon.com

1. The Myth and Madness of Ophelia-this books features essays and art pieces about Ophelia as well as film reviews.
2. Dating Hamlet-Ophelia's Story-Lisa Fiedler-Hamlet told from Ophelia's point of vie-here Ophelia is smart and sassy a big change from how Shakespeare shows us to her. Very unique twists.
3.Hamlet II-Ophelia's Revenge-David Bergantino-in this modern day retelling of the basic Hamlet story the "new" characters travel to Denmark where they are tourtured by the revenge hungry ghost of Ophelia.
